Best Blender For Green Smoothies Reviews 2018: Top 5+ Recommended

I make a lot of green smoothing for both my family and me, and they simply adore my mixes!

However, I spent literally hours making the smoothies with the blender we have, and after a while it became tiresome.

So, I was looking for a replacement to solve my problem, but I could find it. In the end, it came from a friend.

Do you want to know what it is?

Well, it was a simple fix – I should just get the best blender for green smoothies above all else.

So I got to researching and found some interesting and surprising info about making green smoothies – and I want to share it with you in this article.

What You Need to Know About Green Smoothies

Some of you might not be aware of green smoothies, and that’s a real shame since they are quite great!

I first found out about them in a magazine I was reading – someone just mentioned them off-hand in an interview, and I wondered what they were.

So, I went online and was fascinated with what I found out.

Green smoothies are a fantastic way to pack a lot of nutrients in one delicious drink that will sate your hunger and stop you from reaching for nasty junk food. They are made from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and are a great substitute for a meal.

You should almost always use more fruit then vegetables in them, though, and if you use sweet fruits, you can avoid having to use an artificial sweetener to make it taste good.

Still, these are just rough guidelines, and there are tons of different recipes out there that you can try! I tried plenty of them before I found the one that fits me the best, but I give each one of my boys a different one that suits their tastes.

Of course, this leads to me spending a lot of time in the morning making the smoothies and cleaning out the blender afterward is a separate chore altogether. Getting the right blender for the job changed all that, though, and I will now tell you how.

How Can You Make a Better Green Smoothie by Using a Different Blender?

You might think all blenders are roughly the same, and that’s something I thought too, but that is far from the truth.

There are a ton of differences below the hood that can affect how you blend your food – and using the wrong blender can ruin both the food and the machine itself.

But how can blending a bunch of fruits and vegetables damage a blender, you might wonder?

Well, vegetables and fruit have a lot of fibers and breaking them up can be difficult for most blenders. This leads to them breaking and the smoothies being too chunky.

Because of that, you should pick the right blender for the job, and I can tell you just how to do that in the following section.

How to Find a Good Green Smoothie Blender

It seems a bit difficult, but you should worry too much about it – I already did the legwork for you and narrowed it all down.

Here’s how you can spot a good green smoothie blender straight away!

1. Getting Enough Power

  • The first thing you should consider is the strength of your blender. You want it to be able to chop up all the fruits and vegetables you want in your smoothie without issue, right? You shouldn’t skimp on this, and get a blender that has at least a one horsepower motor or maybe even a stronger one. You can never have too much power when it comes to blenders! But, almost as important as that is the next point.

2. The Right Blade for the Job

  • You might have all the strength in the world, but without the correct blade type, it’s all for naught. Trust me; I’ve been through that particular struggle.
  • There are various blade types. Dry blades for things like nuts or grain are not what you want, and neither are combo blades as they are usually of lower quality. What you need for a smoothie blender is something different. You need wet blades, since they are designed to make an evenly processed mix out of whatever you are blending, so you won’t get a chunky or badly mixed smoothie.

Besides that, there’s also another thing you have to consider…

3. Ensuring You Have Enough Space

  • It’s important that you get a blender which is large enough for your needs. If you have a small one you might need to make multiple batches or cut up your fruits and vegetables into incredibly small pieces. That’s what I did with my previous blender, and it cost me a lot of time. Avoid that by getting a blender which is large enough for you. If you’re making plenty of smoothies, it will save you a ton of time.

Most Recommended Blenders for Making Green Smoothies in 2018 - Reviewed By Barbara

It was tough finding the right blender for making the green smoothies my boys love so much, so I got a ton of different products and tried them out.

Here’s a selection of the best ones I tried before I finally chose one above all others, which is a story I will tell you about a bit later:

There are a lot of things I liked about this blender, chiefly the high power it had for such a small machine. The 600 watt motor inside it was more than strong enough to chop up most things I put inside. When I saw it in the store, I thought it might be underpowered, but that was not the case.

However, the reason I thought it might not prove to be powerful enough is its size – it is rather small. It comes with a few cups, each in a different size, but there is no going around the fact that this blender just doesn’t have a lot of capacity.

It is rather adjustable though, which makes it suitable for a lot of different tasks and it can make smoothies quite well. It has a few different blades, and one is simply ideal for cutting up fruits and veggies in a flash. It comes with other useful attachments that you will most certainly find useful – I know I did!

When you’re done making smoothies with it, you can also wash it in the dishwasher, which is a great time saver, since plenty of blenders must be washed by hand.

Things I Liked

  • It has plenty of power in its small frame
  • Comes with a lot of useful attachments and different blades
  • Can be washed in a dishwasher

Things I Didn’t Like

  • exclamation-triangle
It’s rather small and can’t make a huge amount of smoothies
  • exclamation-triangle
Unfortunately, it lacks durability and is prone to malfunctions

    It is quite loud

When I got this blender, I thought it might not perform well, but it worked better than most others I used. It has quite a powerful motor, and it chopped up anything I put into it, making great smoothies with no nasty chunks.

That power comes at a price that your ears will pay. It is exceptionally loud, and it almost put me off using it. I’m not kidding; you might have to use ear protection when you’re running it - it’s that noisy.

That’s not the only issue I had with it though. There was a distinct lack of adjustability, and if you want to run it at lower speeds, you’re out of luck. That was disappointing for me since I couldn’t make smoothies with certain ingredients.

The upside is that it is an efficient machine and it’s reliable. It will never spill anything and has a handy drainage system for handling potential spills. It’ll also last you for a long time since it seems to be quite durable. You will get more than enough value out of this one, especially since it comes at quite a low price when compared to similar blenders.

Things I Liked

  • Incredibly powerful for something of this size
  • It’s efficient and never spills its contents
  • Comes at an affordable price

Things I Didn’t Like

  • exclamation-triangle
It’s incredibly loud, far more than others I used
  • exclamation-triangle
It lacks adjustability, and there are no speed options
  • exclamation-triangle
The cups are difficult to hold

The best part about this blender is simply how portable it is!

You can take it anywhere with you and use it without a problem due to how quiet it is. It also has quite a lot of battery life, so you’re in no danger of running out. If you want to take it to work with you, it’s great for that, or at least that’s what my husband tells me.

That kind of portability requires some sacrifices, and you might find this blender to be more than a little underpowered. I sure did, since I couldn’t make smoothies using some harder vegetables or fruits. It also has a low capacity – you can maybe fit in two or three apples in there, but not much more than that.

The good part is that it is completely safe to operate and anyone can use it – even the kids had no trouble using it when I wasn’t around.

I had quite a bit of difficulty cleaning it, though. It can’t be washed in a dishwasher, so I had to clean it by hand, and things got stuck to it way too often. I couldn’t disassemble it to wash it better either.

Things I Liked

  • Portable and can be used almost anywhere
  • Easy to operate and completely safe
  • It can also be used as a drinking cup

Things I Didn’t Like

  • exclamation-triangle
It has quite a low capacity compared to other blenders
  • exclamation-triangle
Difficult to clean, can’t be cleaned in a dishwasher
  • exclamation-triangle
Lacks the power to deal with some veggies

To be honest with you, the main reason why I got this blender at first was the fact that it’s just so cheap! I love a great deal, and this seemed like one, so I snatched it up right away.

It turned out to be quite a decent blender, and it had something most others lacked – large capacity. I was able to make enough smoothies for the entire family with just two uses. That can save you a lot of time.

The power is more than adequate as well, and it was able to handle anything I put into it without issues. It chopped up avocado and pineapple like it was nothing! I was certainly impressed, especially when I got to drink the smoothies made with it.

However, it was prone to leaking at times. It got quite messy at one particular occasion; there were fruit pieces all over the kitchen, and it took me more than an hour to clean it all up. That soured me on using it.

Another issue that got me to stop using it is the difficulty in cleaning it. The blades are especially difficult to clean up properly, and it frustrated me quite a bit.

Things I Liked

  • Comes at a low price that anyone can afford
  • It’s quite large; you can make a lot of smoothies with it
  • You can use it as a bottle

Things I Didn’t Like

  • exclamation-triangle
Difficult to turn on or off on a dime
  • exclamation-triangle
The blades can be difficult to clean
  • exclamation-triangle
    It can leak at times

This is another great deal I came across, and one of the cheapest blenders I could find. It was still quite a quality product.

The thing I liked the best about this blender was how easy it was to clean. It seemed almost impossible that nothing stuck to it at all!

Considering how difficult most blenders are to clean, this was an incredible time saver for me.

It is also fairly portable, and you can take it and use it almost anywhere, which is a great plus for people who need that. The container can also be used as a neat cup.

Of course, it’s not all good, and the largest problem I had with it was the lack of power. When I tried to use it to make a cold smoothie with some ice, it just wouldn’t do the job, and that disappointed me greatly.

It also lacks in size, since it can only make enough for a single cup. For some people that might be just enough, but I need to make more than that and using it four or five times just to make enough smoothies becomes a chore.

It’s not a bad little blender, but it is not the right one for me, I think. It might still be the right one for you, though.

Things I Liked

  • It is quite portable and can be used as a cup
  • Incredibly easy to clean
  • Comes at a price that is reasonable for anyone

Things I Didn’t Like

  • exclamation-triangle
It lacks the power to handle anything tougher than a banana, can’t crush ice
  • exclamation-triangle
It doesn’t have a lot of capacity
  • exclamation-triangle
    There are problems with leaking

My Pick

It was a bit difficult to pick the right blender for me, but I hope the process will be easier for you.

I had some help from my family in picking this one, and in the end, we chose the Oster BLSTPB-WGN My Blend.

While this blender does have some issues, in the end, it was just what we needed – a larger blender that can make good smoothies and has more than enough power to cut up anything we might put into it.

Making smoothies is much easier now, and I can thank this machine for it.

Of course, I might be able to find an even better blender in the future – new products are appearing every day, and I can’t get through them all.

This one is more than good enough for now. If I find anything better, though, I’ll be sure to let you know!

Have a nice day and good luck with making your smoothies! 😉
